VICE President Sara Duterte said that there is a need to respect the role of the Senate of the Philippines, and they decided to archive the articles of impeachment against her.

"Everyone must follow and respect that decision of the Senate," she said during a media interview on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at San Pedro Cathedral.

Duterte stated that she and her team did not have any specific expectations regarding the Senate’s decision and that her defense team had considered all possible outcomes.

The vice president admitted that she initially wanted a “bloodbath,” which she meant a full presentation of all evidence from both the defense and prosecution, allowing the public to see everything.

However, she acknowledged that this would no longer be possible now that the complaints have been archived.

She added that her team must be prepared for any possible developments in the future, especially if another impeachment case is filed against her.

On August 6, 2025, the Senate archived the impeachment case against Duterte, following a recent decision by the Supreme Court (SC). Nine senators, including Senate President Chiz Escudero, voted in favor of Senate Majority Leader Joel Villanueva’s motion to archive the complaint.

Villanueva’s motion amended Senator Rodante Marcoleta’s original proposal to dismiss the case, citing the SC’s decision declaring the complaint unconstitutional.

To recall, on July 25, 2025, the Supreme Court granted the petition to dismiss the fourth impeachment complaint against Duterte. In a 13-0-2 decision, the justices present voted unanimously, ruling that the complaint was void for “violating the one-year ban and due process requirements.”

However, on August 4, 2025, the House of Representatives (HOR) asked the Supreme Court to revisit and reconsider its ruling that nullified the impeachment case against Duterte.

Meanwhile, Davao City First District Councilor Atty. Luna Acosta said that her office received a copy of the motion for reconsideration from both the HOR and the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) on August 4, 2025.

In response, during its session on August 5, 2025, the Supreme Court required the Vice President and petitioners Atty. Israelito P. Torreon and company to comment on the motion within 10 days, with no extension. RGP
