A BUY-BUST conducted by the Iloilo City Police Office-Drug Enforcement Unit (ICPO-DEU) led to the arrest of three suspects and the confiscation of 150 grams of substance believed to be shabu, worth P1.02 million, in Barangay Lanit, Jaro, Iloilo City, at around 5:24 p.m. on March 19, 2025.

Police Regional Office in Western Visayas (PRO 6) Director, Brigadier General Jack L. Wanky, commended the ICPO-DEU personnel for their efforts in curbing illegal drug activities in the city.

“The successful seizure of illegal drugs from the suspects is a testament to PRO 6’s unwavering commitment and aggressive fight against illegal drugs. Moreover, the support of stakeholders has been indispensable in this relentless campaign to stop the proliferation of illegal drugs,” Wanky said.

The arrested individuals were identified as alias Jeje, 42; alias Toto, 39; both classified as high-value individuals (HVIs); and alias Inday, 37.

All are residents of Barangay Lanit, Jaro District, Iloilo City. During the operation, police recovered 18 plastic sachets containing suspected shabu.

The suspects are currently under police custody, and appropriate charges are being prepared against them.

Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas reaffirmed the city’s commitment to eliminating illegal drugs, emphasizing that law enforcement operations are conducted independently and without political interference.

“No one is above the law. Our stance is clear—there are no exemptions, and we do not protect anyone involved in illegal activities. While political organizations have multiple layers of leadership, it is impossible to monitor every individual’s actions," the mayor said.

Treñas stated that anyone found engaging in illegal drug activities will be immediately removed, similar to previous job hires.

He urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities to maintain a drug-free Iloilo City. (Leo Solinap/SunStar Philippines)
