THE 61st Infantry (Hunter) Battalion of the Philippine Army welcomed Chief Master Sergeant Ismael Calayo, division sergeant major, and Master Sergeant Leonardo Aboy, brigade sergeant major, during their leadership visit at Camp Monteclaro, Barangay Igtuba, Miagao, Iloilo, on June 13, 2025.
Aboy emphasized the significance of self-discipline and urged non-commissioned officers (NCOs) to maintain a strong personal focus and continuously strive for self-improvement. He emphasized the importance of a positive mindset in NCO duties, emphasizing the need for understanding job descriptions, mastering tasks, and developing critical thinking and writing skills for effective communication and leadership.
Calayo, on the other hand, shared guidance from the Commanding General, Philippine Army (CGPA), on policies and directives. He stressed the importance of maintaining troop morale, active mentoring, and personal fitness. He emphasized strict adherence to military policies, particularly uniform standards. Calayo encouraged Hunter Troopers to develop Senior NCOs, stating that knowledge and competency are crucial for good leadership and a strong force.
Both senior NCOs echoed the leadership vision of Major General Michael Samson, Commander of the 3rd Infantry (Spearhead) Division, promoting resilience and confident leadership through the “Stand Tall, Lead Loud” philosophy. This approach calls for visible, physically fit, and mentally tough leaders at every level of the organization.
The visit emphasized the 61IB's dedication to fostering leadership, professionalism, and discipline among its personnel, with senior NCO leaders expected to boost operational readiness and national defense role. (Leo Solinap/SunStar Philippines)
