THE 61st Infantry (Hunter) Battalion (61IB) of the Philippine Army joined a socio-economic group discussion at the Governor’s Board Room, Iloilo Provincial Capitol, to support the implementation of the Livelihood Settlement Grant (LSG) program for conflict-vulnerable communities and former rebels in Iloilo Province on July 28, 2025.

The event was presided over by Rani Melvi Cuarte, the acting provincial social welfare and development officer of Iloilo (PSWDO).

Also present during the activity were representatives from the Philippine Army’s 301st Infantry (Bayanihan) Brigade (301Bde) with headquarters in Dingle in Iloilo, the 82nd Infantry (Bantay Laya) Battalion (82IB) based in Banga in Aklan, the 12th Infantry (Lick 'Em) Battalion (12IB) based in Calinog in Iloilo, the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (Ippo), and stakeholders from regional and provincial social welfare offices.

The gathering underscored a shared commitment to ensure sustainable reintegration for former rebels by providing livelihood opportunities in conflict-prone communities.

The Livelihood Settlement Grant, a government initiative, is designed to equip former rebels and vulnerable sectors with tools for economic self-sufficiency, thereby contributing to long-term peace and development.

The 61IB, based in Miagao, Iloilo, emphasized its continued support for the program, pledging to assist in the efficient and safe delivery of services in collaboration with local government units and other agencies.

The Philippine Army’s role, the 61IB noted, goes beyond its traditional security mandate.

Its participation in peace-building and socio-economic efforts reflects a broader goal of establishing resilient and inclusive communities in Western Visayas. (Leo Solinap/SunStar Philippines)
