THE spirit of bayanihan came alive in Sitio Tambulan, Barangay Mayang, Tubungan, Iloilo, as residents, barangay officials, and personnel of the 1st Iloilo Provincial Mobile Force Company (1st IPMFC) worked hand in hand to construct a bamboo bridge for the community on August 10, 2025.

The project was initiated after police personnel, during their immersion in July, identified the need for a safe and accessible crossing in the area, which is often challenged by heavy rains and flooding.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Arnel Solis, force commander of the 1st IPMFC, said manpower and resources were pooled to make the bridge a reality.

Solis thanked all who took part in the endeavor.

“Sa tingin natin, maliit na bagay lang ito, pero alam natin na napakahalaga nito para sa mga residente ng Sitio Tambulan. Kahit umulan at bumaha sa lugar nila, ligtas silang makatawid ano mang oras," he said.

(We think it's just a small thing, but we know that it's very important for the residents of Sitio Tambulan. Even if it rains and floods in their area, they can cross safely at any time.)

Solis expressed his satisfaction with the cooperation and collaboration between the community and the police.

The bamboo bridge now serves as both a vital passageway and a lasting reminder of what the community can achieve through cooperation and shared purpose.  (Leo Solinap/SunStar Philippines)
