FORMER Barotac Viejo Mayor Myrna Causing-Tupas, 77, passed away at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, her son, former Iloilo City councilor Nielex “Lex” Tupas, confirmed. She was the widow of the late Iloilo governor Niel Tupas Sr.
“I lost my beloved mother at 8 a.m. this morning. She is now in a better place. No more pain,” Tupas wrote in a social media post.
“There are so many reasons to be thankful that you are my Nanay, and I will forever be grateful. I love you, and I will always cherish the good memories. Rest in peace, Nanay, and say hi to Tatay and Inday Tweety (Nielette) for me. Upod na kamu ni Tatay liwat,” he added.
Tupas shared that his mother had become increasingly frail since January and that he had been preparing emotionally for her passing. In a heartfelt tribute, he recalled her role in his life -- as a mother, mentor, and supporter in public service.
He also thanked her for her unwavering love and support for his wife, Candice, and their children, highlighting her generosity, guidance, and presence in every milestone of their lives.
Myrna Causing-Tupas served as mayor of Barotac Viejo and was known for her dedication to public service.
Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas extended his condolences, saying, “The legacy of love and service she leaves behind will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched. May her soul find eternal rest, and may her memory forever be a blessing to those whose lives she graced.”
She and the late governor had seven children -- Niel Jr., Raul, Niel III, Nieleto, Nielo, Nielex and Nielette, who died 2024.
Myrna Causing-Tupas' wake and interment details have been finalized by her family.
The convoy transporting her remains will depart from Cosmopolitan Somo Delgado at 9 a.m. Thursday, May 1, 2025.
