Girl killed, grandmother injured in electrocution incident in Iloilo

A GRADE 7 student died while her grandmother was injured after being electrocuted in Barangay Tacuyong Norte, Leon, Iloilo, around 8:30 a.m. on June 8, 2025.

The Leon Municipal Police Station (MPS) identified the deceased as a female minor from Barangay Tacuyong Norte. Her grandmother, identified as alias Lina, 59, a widow and also a resident of the same barangay, sustained injuries but survived the incident.

Two victims were electrocuted while walking from their old residence to their new farm house when their grandmother accidentally touched a low-hanging electrical wire, while a minor attempted to help her grandmother.

According to the report, the incident occurred just 50 meters from the barangay plaza. Alias Lina lost consciousness but later regained it and was able to seek help from bystanders at the barangay plaza. 

The minor victim was rushed to Aleosan District Hospital in Alimodian, Iloilo, but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician at around 9:50 a.m.

Authorities said the investigation into the electrocution is ongoing to determine the source and responsibility for the low-hanging electrical wire. (Leo Solinap/SunStar Philippines)
