AS THE lean months approach, the Iloilo City Police Office (Icpo) is calling on residents to remain alert and take proactive steps to safeguard their homes, valuables, and personal safety against theft and other criminal activities.
Police Colonel Kim Legada, Icpo director, said the public’s cooperation and vigilance are essential in helping law enforcement prevent crimes, especially during a time when many families may be away for vacations, errands, or school-related activities.
“Security starts with awareness,” said Legada. “We call on every Ilonggo to take simple yet effective steps -- lock doors, secure valuables, and report anything unusual. Let’s not give criminals the opportunity.”
The Icpo has intensified its anti-criminality operations and increased police visibility across the city.
Police stations are also working closely with community stakeholders and barangay officials to relay safety tips and advisories to residents.
Among the safety precautions advised by the Icpo are:
Always lock doors and windows, even when at home.
Avoid leaving valuables in plain sight.
Install adequate lighting and security systems.
Report suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest police station.
“The safety of our communities depends not only on the police but also on each citizen doing their part,” Legada added.
The Icpo assured the public of its sustained operations and presence in all districts of Iloilo City.
Community engagement initiatives involve regular coordination with barangay officials, linking law enforcement agencies and neighborhood residents. This facilitates effective information sharing and faster response times to security concerns, especially during lean months due to economic pressures.
The Icpo employs proactive prevention strategies to maintain community safety during emergencies, ensuring residents can access immediate assistance through multiple communication channels.
For emergencies or immediate assistance, the public may dial 911 or contact the Iloilo City Police Office (Icpo) through its dedicated hotlines at 0908-377-0194 or (033) 335-0299.
These contact numbers provide 24-hour access to police services and ensure that residents can report concerns or request assistance at any time during the lean months period.
The comprehensive security initiative demonstrates the Icpo's commitment to maintaining public safety through collaborative community-based approaches that engage all stakeholders in crime prevention efforts. (Leo Solinap)
