ILOILO City was recognized with numerous awards at the 7th Regional Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI) Awards held at Zuri Hotel on Friday, October 13, 2023.
The city was recognized as the "Most Competitive Highly Urbanized City" (HUC) and "Most Improved Highly Urbanized City" at the Philippine Creative Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Congress by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Western Visayas.
Iloilo City's achievements in various competitiveness pillars were also recognized, including:

Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas, who was represented by Executive Assistant Jay Treñas and Velma Lao from the city's Local Economic Development and Investment Promotion, expressed gratitude for the recognition.
Aside from Iloilo City, other local government units (LGU) in Western Visayas achieved remarkable success in the 7th Regional CMCI Awards.
Recognized for excellence in the five essential pillars of competitiveness, namely Economic Dynamism, Government Efficiency, Infrastructure, Resilience, and Innovation, under the theme "Building Creative Cities and Municipalities, Elevating Local Competitiveness."

The CMCI is an annual ranking developed by the National Competitiveness Council with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
Since 2012, the CMCI has significantly aided cities and municipalities in assessing their competitiveness and enhancing their local competitiveness strategically.
Western Visayas demonstrated full participation in the survey, with 133 LGUs from the region taking part.
The CMCI program of the Department of Trade and Industry Competitiveness Bureau compels LGUs to compile and submit data that serves as the basis for their competitiveness scores and rankings. <b>(SunStar Philippines)</b>
