A TOTAL of 1,984 tricycle drivers and operators in Iloilo City will receive a P5,000 fuel subsidy each, with distribution set on April 8, 2026, as part of the National Government’s assistance to the transport sector amid the rising fuel and commodity prices.
The subsidy, sourced from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), will be distributed with the assistance of the Iloilo City Government, which will facilitate the required documentation for beneficiaries.
"Ini nga inisyatibo kabahin sang assistance sang National Government sa aton transport sector, labi na sa pag-atubang sang pagsaka sang presyo sang petroleum products kag iban pa nga mga prime commodities," the City Government said.
(This initiative is part of the National Government’s assistance to the transport sector, especially in addressing the increasing prices of petroleum products and other prime commodities.)
Under the program, each qualified beneficiary will receive P5,000 in cash assistance. Beneficiaries include 1,984 tricycle drivers and operators with valid franchises issued by the City Council and Motorized Tricycle Operator’s Permits (MTOP) issued by the Business Permit and Licensing Division.
To claim the subsidy, beneficiaries are required to present an original professional driver’s license and two photocopies of a valid identification card bearing three original specimen signatures.
The DSWD strictly requires personal appearance during the claiming of the subsidy and does not allow representatives to claim on behalf of beneficiaries.
The City Government urged beneficiaries to cooperate to ensure an orderly and organized distribution of the subsidy.
Prior to this, the Iloilo City Government distributed P500 worth of petroleum assistance to members of Tricycle Operators and Drivers Associations (Toda) last week.
The rollout of a similar subsidy program for public utility jeepney drivers is scheduled on April 9. 2026. (Leo Solinap)
