Aklan province enjoys economic recovery amid pandemic

AKLAN province is currently enjoying what seems to be a moment of temporary economic recovery amid the threat of the Omicron variant of Covid-19.

According to Dr. Cornelio Cuachon of the Provincial Health Office, there were only five Covid-19 patients from Kalibo. They were admitted to Dr. Rafael S. Tumbokon Memorial Hospital.

Because of this, the province has opened to tourists since November 2021. The PHO has been vigilant against any possible manifestation of Omicron cases in the province.

The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry-Aklan Chapter has also welcomed the decision of Aklan Governor Florencio Miraflores to ease the curfew from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. daily.

It could be recalled that the Covid-19 situation in the province peaked from June to August this year, with around 137 deaths for the whole duration of the peak months. Hundreds of active Covid-19 cases have been reported during the said duration.

The province has currently achieved a 43-percent immunization rate from its target as a whole.

Overall, the province has registered a total of 12,657 cases and 321 deaths.

As the economic recovery has started to rise, Aklan Vice Governor Reynaldo Quimpo said the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Aklan has recently approved the P2.5-billion budget for 2022.

The budget is 25-percent higher compared to this calendar year 2021. The bulk of the budget is intended for continuous economic recovery brought by the Covid-19 pandemic and for resiliency programs.
