SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique – The crime solution efficiency and strong support of the local government unit (LGU) of San Jose de Buenavista earned its municipal police station (MPS) the recognition as the Best Municipal Police Station in Western Visayas for three consecutive years.

“San Jose de Buenavista MPS has increased its crime solution efficiency to 86.71 percent this year,” said San Jose de Buenavista MPS acting chief of police Major Geremy Ian Magbanua, in an interview on Wednesday.

He said last year’s crime solution efficiency was 85.17 percent, but their 56 uniformed personnel were relentless until crime incidents were cleared or solved.

Crime solution efficiency refers to the percentage of solved cases out of the total number of crime incidents for a given period.

From April 1, 2022, to March 31, 2023, the period covered for the annual search, the local police station cleared 314 crime incidents and solved 274 of the 316 total reported crimes.

A crime is cleared when the suspect is identified and the case is filed in court regardless if the offender is arrested or not.

A crime is considered solved once the suspect is identified, arrested, and a case is filed in court.

With the help of the local government, closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras were installed in various convergence areas in the municipality.

“Police personnel could immediately respond to incidents because of the CCTV cameras,” Magbanua said.

He added San Jose de Buenavista MPS intends to sustain its being the best in the region by focusing on technology enhancement, particularly on cyber technology and training of the human resources.

“Beat patrols will continue to ensure police visibility on the streets,” Magbanua added.

The award was conferred during the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO6) Police Service Anniversary (PSA) celebration held in Iloilo City with Philippine National Police Gen. Benjamin C. Acorda as the guest of honor on Aug. 16.

Magbanua was joined by San Jose de Buenavista Mayor Elmer Untaran in receiving the award. (PNA)
