ILOILO City Government Children's Learning Center, or Talatapan, continues to run the "Trash to Cash" project to help pay for its maintenance and make the facility more financially viable to meet the educational needs of its pre-school beneficiaries.The on-going initiative by the Talatapan's Parents' Association is raising funds by creating arts and crafts out of recyclables made by employees.This was part of the preparation for face-to-face classes when they started to focus on fundraising activity during the pandemic period.“Because of the pandemic, we made use of the time. Using the retaso cloth, we started with face masks, then shifted on to boxes, design organizers, tissue holders, coin purses, pillowcases, tote bags, and so on," Talatapan Coordinator Shirley Conte said."With the proceeds, we were able to buy two sewing kits when we were fast producing face masks within the first year of the pandemic," she added.The funds raised have been utilized to purchase children's educational books, refrigerator, television set, and other equipment being used by the pre-schoolers as limited face-to-face classes commenced Monday, September 19, 2022.The learning facility for pre K-1 and pre K-2 children of employees of City Government has currently registered 30 pre-schoolers ages three to four years old.Those who want to check out the eco-friendly products may visit them at the second floor of City Hall.
