Group meets with PNRI to end plans for nuclear program

KALIBO, Aklan -- The Save Antique Movement (SAM) including residents have met with the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI) in Manila to end plans of putting a nuclear facility in Antique.

In an interview, Virgilio Sanchez, SAM president, said the group met with PNRI director Carlo Arcilla to discuss their appeal.

The SAM initiated a signature campaign in 2019 against proposed building of a nuclear facility at Semirara Island in Caluya, Antique.

“Arcilla has been quoted in national media that he is eyeing Caluya Island as potential site for nuclear program,” Sanchez said.

“We talked to Arcilla and handed over our appeal to him. Arcilla said he will respect the sentiments if the people,” he added. (SunStar Philippines)
