Guimaras bans entry of buses, vehicles from Metro Manila

THE Province of Guimaras has imposed a temporary ban for the entry of commercial and private buses and vehicles coming from Metro Manila to the island province.

Governor Samuel Gumarin issued Executive Order 29, series of 2020 on March 13, 2020 after the Department of Health (DOH) raised the Code Alert System for coronavirus disease (Covid-19) to Code Red Sub-Level 2.

Gumarin said the initiative was taken to protect the tourism industry and inhabitants of the island.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Government of Guimaras appealed to the Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) to temporarily suspend the wearing of life jackets for passengers of motorbanca plying the Guimaras-Iloilo route vice versa.

Gumarin said this measure will mitigate the spread of the deadly virus.

He said the use of life jackets by different persons may be a cause for the spread of the virus.

"Prayoridad naton maprotektahan ang mga Guimarasnon. We already had local transmission sang virus diri sa Pilipinas. Indi na ini lahug-lahog," Gumarin said.

Guimaras has already imposed a temporary ban for the entry of tourists who have a history of travel to countries and areas with confirmed cases of Covid-19. (PR)
