THE Iloilo City Police Office (Icpo) recorded a 14.53 percent decrease in crime volume in the metropolis in 2018 compared to 2017.

A total of 8,556 crimes were recorded in 2018 compared to 10,010 crimes in 2017.

"The continuous decrease in crime volume has a great impact to the city itself. It is not just because of the decrease in number, but also in the security felt by the people," Icpo Operations Chief Superintendent Jowel Saliba said.

"Our officers are continuously doing their best to maintain the decrease of crime volume in the city through its maximum police visibility where they are at their respective posts 24/7," he added.

There were 468 crimes against persons in 2018 compared to 881 crimes against persons in 2017.

There were 420 crimes against property in 2018 compared to 654 crimes against property in 2017.

A total of 5,794 traffic incidents happened in 2018 compared to 5,958 traffic incidents in 2017.

"Crime prevention is not only the job of the Philippine National Police or other law enforcement agencies, it also involves the community. We are appealing to the community, if they have any information to solve such case or prevent a crime, don't ever hesitate to call or visit the nearest police station. Let us help one another and make our city safe to live in," Saliba said. (PR)
