THE Iloilo City Government General Services Office (GSO) has called on residents to give up their old tires in an effort to clear areas with stagnant water, which could grow dengue-carrying mosquitoes.

"May I request all barangay officials to get in touch with our GSO so that all old tires and other containers can be taken by them to avoid being the breeding grounds of mosquitoes. Dengue cases are going up. Let us all be responsible!" Mayor Jerry Treñas said.

Those who have unused tires at home or barangay have been asked to contact Solid Waste Management Chief Engr. Neil Ravena at 09178760100 for pick-up.

The initiative is part of the city’s fight against dengue through the 4S Strategy: 1.) Search and destroy mosquito breeding places; 2.) Self-protection measures; 3.) Seek early consultation; and 4.) Support fogging/spraying in hotspot areas. (PR)
