Iloilo City launches seismic hazard, building risk assessment maps

THE Iloilo City Government partnered with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) in the joint development of the first city-wide event-based probabilistic seismic hazard maps and building risk assessment.

The collaboration launched two books on seismic risk assessment and city-building portfolio exposure databases at City Hall Penthouse on August 18, 2023.

Phivolcs and the Office of the Building Official (OBO) facilitated the turnover of the books "The Iloilo City Building Portfolio: Exposure Database 2015–2022" and "Iloilo City Earthquake Model: Event-Based Probabilistic Seismic Risk Assessment."

The Public Information Office (PIO) also released a brochure titled "Hilway sa peligro bala ang akon balay?" that offers information on how safe your home is and how to keep it secure during disasters.

This venture enables communities, the construction and insurance industries, and governmental organizations to work together in order to ensure the safety and resilience of Iloilo City in the face of seismic threats by providing valuable tools and data.

In line with the government's commitment to accessibility and information dissemination, digital copies of all three products will be made available for free download on the official websites of DOST-Phivolcs (https://www.phivolcs.dost.gov.ph/) and of the Iloilo City Government (https://iloilocity.gov.ph/).(PR)
