RDRRMC: Malay LGU should provide data for Boracay rehab

THE Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (RRDMC) required the local government unit (LGU) of Malay provide data before conducting the planned rehabilitation in Boracay Island.

According to RRDMC chairman Jose Roberto Nuñez, during their RRDMC meeting on March 26, the Malay LGU should comply the needed data prior to the declaration of the state of calamity of the island.

The data should consist of the problems faced by the island, number of affected families, and steps to aid the difficulties.

The meeting was attended by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Tourism, and the Municipality of Malay.

The data gathered will be evaluated and validated for the final and initial report. The full reports will be submitted to the central office.

Nuñez cited the Republic Act 10121 also known as the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010, wherein it is mandated to conduct a validation of reports before the said declaration.

They are directed to provide the initial data this week until Friday.

Nuñez said that the municipality of Malay already declared the state of calamity last November due to the Typhoon Urduja’s onset.

The declaration will allow them to conduct the general rehabilitation in Boracay.

If the LGU fails to comply with the requirements, the RDRRMC will be the one to gather the data.

It was raised also Tuesday that there will be a joint meeting of Regional Peace and Order Council to tackle the matters in Boracay. (Carolyn Jane Abello)
