Senate approves franchise of new power distributor

THE Senate committee on public services headed by Senator Grace Poe approved the franchise of a new power distributor in Iloilo City.

According to Councilor Joshua Alim, the Monte Oro Resources & Energy Inc. (Morei) will replace the operation of Panay Electric Company (Peco) Inc.

On October 22, the senate conducted a hearing with the presence of Alim and Councilor Plaridel Nava, for the deliberation of the new power player.

“We stood our ground. We dream nga islan (to change) ang Peco, to stop its abuses and arrogance on that of inefficient services to the people of Iloilo City,” Alim said during his privilege speech at the City Council’s session on October 23.

Previously, Alim received several negative complaints pertaining to the service provided by Peco.

“We have nearly 30,000 signatures, we gathered for three days nga indi na gusto sang panay electric company,” Alim added.

Based on the Energy Regulatory Commission, Alim assured that there will be no occurrence of blackout in the city during the transition period.

There will be a technical working group to study the “smooth transition” of both power distributor in which Alim and Nava are part of. (Carolyn Jane Abello)
