Temporary traffic scheme takes effect on All Saints, ‘Souls days

A TEMPORARY traffic scheme will be observed during All Saints Day and All Souls Day on November 1 and 2, respectively.

According to Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO) head Jeck Conlu, the new traffic scheme will be effective at 12 a.m. of November 1.

Conlu said that they will be informing the public about the accessible roads near the cemeteries. They will also change the location of the flower vendors to avoid traffic congestion.

Previously, there were vendors situated at the side of the roads which caused traffic congestions especially at the Jaro area.

“Last year, since they were located along the roads, it caused congestion including the minor roads at the back of Jaro Cathedral and the Jaro big market,” Conlu said.

To avoid similar situations, Conlu said they will place the flower vendors inside the Jaro Plaza.

The area in front of the Jaro Cathedral, Archbishop’s palace and SM Savemore-Jaro will serve as a parking space for the customers.

He said that the changes in the traffic scheme is in the Jaro area.

PSTMO will also designate specific spaces to accommodate parking outside the cemeteries.

There are two-way roads heading to the cemeteries that will be converted into one-way traffic.

There are 22 cemeteries in the city located in the districts of La Paz with 2; Jaro, 8; Molom 3; Mandurriao, 3; Arevalo, 3 and City Proper with 3 cemeteries.

Meanwhile, the requirement for the flower vendors consists of barangay clearance, special business permit and electricity fees which can be availed at the Business Permits and Licensing Office (BPLO) at the Iloilo City Hall.

Conlu warns the vendors that there are no other fees except the required payments. Flower vendors can start selling on October 30 up until November 2.
