A 52-YEAR-OLD man was arrested for illegal possession of firearms and for violating the Commission on Elections (Comecec) gun ban at the RoRo Port in Barangay Hoskyn, Jordan, Guimaras, at 3:24 p.m. Monday, May 12, 2025.
Police said the suspect, identified only as alias Geny, a resident of Barangay San Miguel, Jordan, was intercepted after screening personnel discovered a firearm inside his bag during a routine inspection at the Jordan RoRo Wharf.
A firearm was discovered during baggage screening at the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), according to Police Chief Master Sergeant Arnulfo Parita of the Jordan Municipal Police Station (MPS).
Investigation revealed that the Duty Screening Officer John Brian Tolentino of the Jordan Philippines Ports Authority (PPA) instructed Geny to place his red and black “Polar”-marked bag into the baggage screening machine.
The machine detected the presence of a firearm. The suspect was then asked to voluntarily open his bag for further inspection.
Upon inspection, the following items were found:
One .22 caliber revolver loaded with four live cartridges
One replica firearm with a magazine
One red and black bag marked “Polar”
One black and green bag
Three pieces of white plastic
The suspect failed to produce any documents to support lawful possession of the firearm.
He was placed under arrest and is now under the custody of the Jordan Municipal Police Station for proper disposition.
Charges for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act and the Comelec gun ban are being prepared against Geny. (Leo Solinap)
