ILOILO City Mayor Raisa Treñas welcomed representatives from Sweden’s development finance institution and a global engineering consultancy firm for the upcoming feasibility study of the Metro Iloilo Integrated Transport System on August 12, 2025.

Stefan Ekulund of Swedfund International and Alexander Cochrane of Sweco Group paid a courtesy visit to Treñas at the Iloilo City Hall.

They were joined by Lawyer David Garcia, head of the City Public-Private Partnership Office, and Velma Jane Lao, executive director of the Metro Iloilo-Guimaras Economic Development Council and head of the City Local Economic Development and Investment Promotion Office.

Swedfund International is providing technical assistance for the study, which will evaluate the proposed Metro Iloilo Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system.

With a budget of six million Swedish Krona, or about P33 million, the project will run for around eight months and cover Iloilo City and the municipalities of Pavia, Santa Barbara, Cabatuan, Leganes, Oton, and San Miguel.

According to the city government, the assessment will integrate existing urban bus services with future modern public transport routes and identify potential BRT corridors, using current transport assets.

The study will also review other transport modes in the metro area and recommend investments in additional infrastructure if necessary. (Leo Solinap/SunStar Philippines)
