ILOILO City officials convened a multi-agency coordination meeting on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, following a stabbing incident at Jaro Plaza involving seven minors and a separate rumble at the Iloilo City Center (ICC) Grounds on Sunday, August 3.
Mayor Raisa Treñas expressed her resolve in a statement, saying, “As your mayor, I will rise to action with our entire community to ensure that our youth are protected, heard, and guided accordingly to prevent similar incidents and help them grow into responsible citizens of our city.”
The meeting was led by Councilor Nene Dela Llana, together with Councilor Frances Grace Parcon-Torres, Sangguniang Kabataan Federation President Jelma Implica, representatives from the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), Iloilo City Police Office (Icpo), and barangay officials.
Parents and the minors involved were also summoned for proper guidance and support.
The City Mental Health Office committed to providing stress debriefing and counseling sessions for the affected youth. Discussions also included the salient points of Republic Act (RA) 9344 or the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act of 2006.
Parcon-Torres assured the public that a Juvenile Intervention Program will be formulated, in coordination with the CSWDO and the Icpo, to serve as a framework in preventing future incidents involving minors. (Leo Solinap)
