P1.5M ‘shabu’ seized in Iloilo City

A TOTAL OF P1.5 million worth of suspected shabu was confiscated in Iloilo City during a 24-hour anti-drug operation. The Iloilo City Police Office (Icpo) conducted the operation from 6 a.m. on May 19 to 5:59 a.m. on May 20, 2025.

Four individuals were arrested. Two were identified as high-value individuals (HVIs), while the other two were street-level individuals (SLIs).

Police Brigadier General Jack Wanky, director of the Police Regional Office in Western Visayas (PRO 6), praised Icpo for its ongoing efforts against illegal drugs.

“These arrests speak of your unwavering commitment and hard work in shielding our communities from the danger of illegal drugs," he said.

Wanky stated that police-community partnerships will be strengthened to identify and apprehend those still involved in the illegal drug trade.

The operations led to the confiscation of about 221 grams of suspected shabu. Iloilo City Police Stations (ICPS) 4 and 7 had the largest drug seizures.

On May 19, around 3:40 p.m., ICPS 4 operatives arrested alias Inday, 52, in Barangay San Juan, Molo District. They confiscated approximately 100 grams of suspected shabu valued at P680,000.

Later, around 11 p.m., ICPS 7 personnel apprehended alias Maria, 28, in Barangay Tanza Bonifacio, City Proper District. They seized another 100 grams of suspected shabu, also valued at P680,000.

The arrested suspects are currently in police custody. They will face charges for violating Republic Act 9165, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (Leo Solinap/SunStar Philippines)
