POLICE Brigadier General Ponce Rogelio Peñones Jr., originally designated as the new regional director of the Police Regional Office in Western Visayas (PRO 6), has been reassigned to lead the Police Regional Office in Cagayan Valley (PRO 2), according to an official announcement made Friday, June 20, 2025.

Police Brigadier General Josefino Ligan, previously assigned to head the Police Regional Office in Ilocos Region (PRO 1), will now serve as acting regional director of PRO 6.

“This is to announce the amendment of orders regarding the appointment of our incoming regional director, Police Brigadier General Ponce Rogelio Ibasco Peñones Jr. He is now reassigned to the Police Regional Office 2. The incoming regional director of PRO 1, Police Brigadier General Josefino Ligan, will serve as the acting regional director here at Police Regional Office 6,” said Police Lieutenant Colonel Arnel Solis, spokesperson for PRO 6.

The reassignment comes following the transfer of outgoing PRO 6 Director Police Brigadier General Jack Wanky, who will assume command of the Police Regional Office in Calabarzon (PRO 4A).

PRO 6 recognized Wanky’s service through an official statement, citing his strategic leadership, integrity, and accomplishments in strengthening public trust, internal reforms, and improving police-community partnerships since he took over the post in February 2024.

Wanky's leadership led to enhanced anti-crime campaigns, improved operational capabilities, public trust enhancement, enhanced police capabilities, and peace and order in Western Visayas under PRO 6.

As acting director, Ligan brings with him extensive experience from his former role as District Director of the Northern Police District (NPD) under the National Capital Region Police Office.

Malabon, Navotas, and Valenzuela are served by the NPD, which has its headquarters in Caloocan.

Known for his operational competence and administrative discipline, Ligan is expected to sustain and elevate the regional office’s performance in law enforcement and public safety.

The entire police force in Western Visayas, including various police stations has expressed support for Ligan’s assumption of leadership.

He is from PNPA "Kaagapay" Class 1996 and was promoted to one-star general in April 2025. (Leo Solinap/SunStar Philippines)
