RAISA Treñas-Chu, newly elected mayor of Iloilo City, has appointed her father, former Mayor Jerry Treñas, as special adviser to the Iloilo City Government through Executive Order (EO) 4, series of 2025, issued on June 30, 2025.

“This designation is rooted in the value of continuity and institutional strength,” former Mayor Treñas said. “I will only give advice when I’m asked. I will remain silent when I am not. My daughter is strong-willed, independent-minded, and fully capable of making her own decisions.”

Under the order, Treñas is tasked to advise the mayor on political concerns as well as on management and governance matters. The designation is non-compensatory and is intended to support the city’s effective administration and public service delivery.

EO 4 invokes Section 16 of the Local Government Code, affirming the city’s authority to adopt measures that promote the general welfare. Treñas-Chu emphasized that her father's experience, knowledge, and expertise are "invaluable" in addressing concerns of the city and its residents.

"As special adviser, he (Treñas) shall provide advice to the City Mayor with regard to political concerns, and also with regard to management and governance of the city," said in her EO.

Treñas, who previously served as Iloilo City mayor for multiple terms, expressed full confidence in the capability of Treñas-Chu, the City Legal Office, and the city department heads.

“She has the full support of the City Legal Office and the department heads, who are more than able to provide her with the sound guidance she needs in leading the city,” he added.

Treñas expresses confidence in her governance, stating it is based on integrity, consultation, and the rule of law. (Leo Solinap/SunStar Philippines)
