ILOILO City Mayor Raisa Treñas pledged to continue and strengthen the City Government’s support to the Iloilo City Police Office (Icpo), highlighting the nearly P600 million investment since 2019 and the Icpo’s national and regional recognitions in recent years.
Speaking as the guest of honor and speaker during the flag-raising and awarding ceremonies at the Police Regional Office in Western Visayas (PRO 6) Grandstand, Camp General Martin Teofilo B. Delgado on August 4, 2025, Treñas commended the police force for their unwavering dedication to public safety and order.
“Your unwavering service continues to bring safety and peace to Western Visayas. Salamat gid sa inyo pagpanikasog,” Treñas said.
(Thank you for your efforts.)
Treñas recalled that since her father, former Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas, has provided the Icpo with patrol cars, firearms, motorcycles, bicycles, office supplies, fuel, training, and anti-drug operation support. She emphasized that these investments “speak of one thing… trust in your mandate and respect for your mission.”
Treñas said the city has long provided the Icpo with resources such as patrol cars, firearms, motorcycles, bicycles, office supplies, fuel, training, and support for anti-drug operations. She described these provisions as part of the city’s continued logistical support to local law enforcement.
She also noted that Iloilo City received a Special Award during the Philippine National Police’s 124th Police Service Anniversary after ranking first in the Highly Urbanized City (HUC) category, ahead of Zamboanga and Pasig. The Icpo was likewise recognized as the Best Performing City Police Office in the country.
“These achievements validate what we already know: Iloilo City is in good hands because of your tireless work and service,” Treñas added.
Treñas lauded ICPO officers who were nominated for top regional awards:
Police Colonel Kim Legada, city director – Best Senior Police Commissioned Officer for Operations
Police Captain Ryan Christ C. Inot, former head of the City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU) and officer-in-charge of Molo Police Station – Best Junior Police Commissioned Officer for Operations
Police Master Sergeant Argie Catayban – Best Junior Police Non-Commissioned Officer for Operations
As the new city mayor, Treñas announced several forthcoming initiatives, including the distribution of additional motorcycles and the acquisition of surveillance drones for emergency and crowd control purposes.
She also expressed support for Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla’s “Buy 1, Give 1” program, under which Iloilo City will purchase 12 patrol vehicles, matched by another 12 units from the DILG.
“But beyond the equipment and infrastructure, the most valuable resource remains you, our police officers on the ground,” Treñas said.
“Under my watch, we will never allow Iloilo City to be shrouded by illegal drugs again. We are determined to keep our city drug-free and secure,” she added.
From January to July 2025, the Icpo has conducted over 400 anti-drug operations, resulting in 600 arrests and the seizure of nearly 16 kilos of suspected shabu worth P106 million.
“Kay kun isa ang aton nga direksyon, we can build a safe, orderly, and progressive Iloilo City. “Padayon kita sa pagserbisyo sa aton pinalangga nga siyudad kag ululupod kita nga mag-RISE TO ACTION,” Treñas said.
(Because if we have one direction, we can build a safe, orderly, and progressive Iloilo City. Let's continue to serve our beloved city and let's RISE TO ACTION together.) (Leo Solinap/SunStar Philippines)
