ILOILO City Mayor Jerry Treñas, whose term ends soon, expressed gratitude and pride on Monday, June 23, 2025.
He stated the city has progressed over the past six years and is ready for "greater dreams and achievements" under the new administration.
“I leave behind a city ready for greater dreams and achievements,” Treñas said during the City Hall flag ceremony. He called on all Ilonggos to give their full support to incoming Mayor-elect Raisa Treñas-Chu, who will formally take office on June 30.
“Ginapangayo ko gid sa inyo tanan – ihatag ta ang aton kooperasyon kag pagbulig sa masunod nga administrasyon para ang kaayuhan nga madala sang masunod nga liderato, tanan kita maka-ambit,” Treñas said.
(I urge you all – let's give our cooperation and help to the next administration for the good that the next leadership will bring, we can all share.)
During the ceremony, Treñas thanked department heads and city government employees for their role in the city's progress.
Treñas emphasized that the city's achievements resulted from teamwork, not individual effort. He recognized the collective contributions of department heads and employees.
Treñas cited several recognitions received in his final year, including Iloilo City’s first-ever Unmodified Opinion from the Commission on Audit (COA) on its 2024 financial statements.
"Let us all be proud of this achievement. Not all LGUs receive this. You should take pride in what Iloilo City has accomplished," he said.
He also mentioned recent awards:
- First Place in the City Category at the POPDEV Awards for Most Outstanding Local Government Unit, through the Office of the City Population Officer.
- Top 1 City Government Office in General Insurance Premiums Payment for 2024 by the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS).
- Special Recognition for Environmental Leadership from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) – Environmental Management Bureau Region 6.
Treñas concluded by reflecting on his years of service and the legacy he leaves. He pledged to carry the selfless assistance he received in his heart as Iloilo City continues to build and strive for pride.
Treñas will turn over leadership to his daughter, Mayor-elect Treñas-Chu. (Leo Solinap/SunStar Philippines)
