
VOTERS continued to flock to Jaro High School in Iloilo City despite the intense morning heat as of 9:30 a.m. on Monday, May 12, 2025, as the midterm national and local elections proceeded.
The flow of voters has been steady since the polls opened. Even with the heat, people are showing up early to cast their votes, one voter said.
Jaro National High School and Jaro 1 and 11 Elementary Schools are voting centers in Iloilo City, serving thousands of registered voters.
Election officials, assisted by personnel from the Iloilo City Police Office (Icpo) and volunteers, ensured that the voting process remained orderly and peaceful. Uniformed police officers outside the school were seen patrolling the vicinity, while medical teams stood by in case of heat-related emergencies.
Police Colonel Kim Legada, director of Icpo stressed the significance of serving without favoritism, bias, or political influence, emphasizing professionalism, integrity, and impartiality in line with the core values of the Philippine National Police (PNP). Unit and station commanders are instructed to avoid political activities that may violate Commission guidelines.
"We aim for zero election-related incidents. We urge the public to show respect, extend courtesy, and follow the law,” Legada said.
As of 11:30 a.m., Police Major Shella Mae A. Sangrines, spokesperson and officer-in-charge of the City Community Affairs and Development Unit (CCADU), said the Media Center is designed to provide real-time information.
She said there are no untoward incidents they monitored in Iloilo City.
According to the Comelec, 330,621 registered voters in Iloilo City will cast ballots in the midterm elections scheduled for May 2025.
