TWO individuals, including a four-year-old girl, were killed when a sports utility vehicle (SUV) crashed through the passenger entrance of the departure area at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 on Sunday, May 4, 2025.

In an interview with reporters, Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said the four-year-old girl is a daughter of an overseas Filipino worker who was about to leave the country.

“Masakit, kausap ko yung father kanina, OFW siya. Hinatid lang s’ya ng pamilya niya kasama ‘yung anak niya tapos ito yung nangyari,” he said.

(It's heartbreaking. I spoke with the father earlier -- he's an overseas Filipino worker. His family, along with his child, had just brought him to the airport, and then this happened.)

Dizon said three individuals were also injured and are now undergoing medical treatment in a hospital.

He said San Miguel Corporation (SMC) chief executive officer Ramon Ang committed to shoulder all the medical and burial expenses of the victims.

The SMC leads a consortium for the rehabilitation of the NAIA terminals.

The driver of the SUV has already been placed under police custody.

“’Yung driver ay may hinatid siyang pasahero. May isang pasahero siyang hinatid at pagkababa nung pasahero, tinulungan niya ibaba ‘yung bag nung pasahero. Pumunta na ‘yung pasahero papasok ng NAIA at doon biglang nakita namin ‘yung sasakyan na rumagasa. So right now, initially mukha naman hindi pumunta dito yung driver para managasa, hindi intentional,” said Dizon.

(The driver had just dropped off a passenger. After the passenger got out, he helped unload the bag. The passenger was already heading into NAIA when we suddenly saw the vehicle speed through. So right now, it initially seems that the driver didn’t come here with the intent to run people over -- it didn’t appear intentional.)

In a report, the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group said the other fatality is a 28-year-old man, while the injured persons include a four-year-old girl. (TPM/SunStar Philippines)
