2 dead in firearms, ammunition manufacturing plant explosion

AN EXPLOSION at a firearms and ammunition manufacturing plant in Marikina City on Monday, July 7, 2025, killed two employees and injured one.

Armscor Global Defense Inc. (AGDI) confirmed in a statement on Tuesday, July 8, that the explosion occurred in the factory's ammunition section early Monday afternoon. The injured employee was treated and discharged from the hospital.

AGDI extended its sympathies to the families of the deceased and assures families that it will provide all necessary assistance and support.

The company also stated it is fully cooperating with the Philippine National Police and other government agencies. Authorities are conducting a thorough and transparent investigation into the explosion.

“We would also like to take this opportunity to reiterate that in all its decades of operation, AGDI has been fully and strictly compliant with all applicable international standards and industry practices, along with local regulations as well as inspections conducted by the PNP,” AGDI chairman, president and chief-executive-officer Martin Tuason said.

“Each and every employee is a valued member of the AGDO family and as such, their safety and welfare are and have always been our top priority. That is why we are leaving no stones unturned in getting to the bottom of the unfortunate accident.
