A TWO-STAR general in the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) faces rape and attempted rape charges filed by two male junior soldiers.
The complainants stated the incidents occurred at San Fernando Air Base in Lipa, Batangas, on the night of January 29, 2025. They alleged the general sexually assaulted them after asking them to accompany him to his room after drinks.
The accused general denied the allegations, saying it was impossible because the two soldiers are "strong and able-bodied military officers" who could overpower him.
"They are not under duress nor did I use a firearm or any bladed weapon, nor I use force, threat, or intimidation against their will," the general's counter-affidavit read. "They could have easily left my room, as they had free access to the door or used force to prevent the unlawful act."
The AFP stated the accused was immediately relieved after administrative charges were filed.
“A pre-trial investigation was subsequently conducted and has since been completed. The case is now pending the approval of the convening authority for referral to a General Court Martial (GCM) and its eventual convening,” it said.
"The AFP assures the complainants that their rights are fully protected and that they are being safeguarded from any form of intimidation or undue influence throughout the process," the AFP said in a statement.
The AFP vowed its commitment to due process, transparency, and accountability within the military justice system which serves as the foundation for pursuing truth and justice while ensuring fairness to all parties.
"The AFP continues to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and discipline in the fulfillment of its sworn duty to protect the people and the state," it added. (TPM/SunStar Philippines)
