LESS than a week before the deadline, only eight senatorial candidates and 11 party-list groups have filed their Statements of Contributions and Expenditures (Soces) for the last May 12 midterm polls.

Data provided by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) also showed that only three political parties have filed their Soces with the deadline set on June 11.

Among senatorial bets, having filed their Soces are Victor Rodriguez, Norberto Gonzales, Dr. Willie Ong, France Castro, Tito Sotto, Angelo de Ablan, Jerome Adonis, and Philip Salvador.

Also filing their Soces are party-list groups Abono, API, 1Pacman, Manila Teachers, Angat, ACT Teachers, Nanay, Buhay, Kabayan, Akay ni Sol, and Bida Katagumpay.

As for political parties, having filed their Soces are Akay, PDSP, and Bigkis Pinoy Movement.

In an interview, Comelec Chairman George Garcia said they expect the numbers of Soce filers to increase starting Monday.

He said this is because Filipinos have the penchant to do everything at the last minute.

"By Monday, we may be able to see a surge in the number of SOCE filers," said Garcia.

Under Republic Act No. 7166, all candidates and treasurers of the political parties shall, within 30 days after Election Day file their full, true, and itemized Soces. (Anton Banal/SunStar Philippines)
