ANG Bumbero ng Pilipinas second nominee Leninsky Bacud was shot dead on Monday evening, April 28, 2025.
In a report, the Manila Police District (MPD) said Bacud, a former barangay chairman, was gunned down by an unknown gunman in Barangay 435, Sampaloc, Manila.
The victim was declared dead upon arrival at a hospital.
Patrolman Rei Jetru Brual Realiza, who was in the area when the shooting happened, engaged the gunman in a gunfight.
Manila Police District (MPD) spokesperson Major Philipp Ines said the gunman was shot by the police in his foot.
“Noong nalaman agad nating nangyari itong insidenteng ito, nagkaroon agad tayo ng dragnet at pinacheck agad natin 'yung mga hospital kung merong mga dinala doon ng mga gunshot wound,” he said.
(As soon as we learned about the incident, we immediately conducted a dragnet and had hospitals checked to see if anyone with gunshot wounds had been brought in.)
