Logistics firm found violating labor, consumer laws

PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) Chief Archie Gamboa said the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) has found logistics company J&T Express violating labor and consumer laws.

Based on CIDG’s report submitted on July 14, Gamboa said the company has been charged with violation of Republic Act (RA) 11332, or Mandatory Reporting of Notifiable Diseases and Health Events, and RA 7394, or Consumer Act of the Philippines.

Gamboa also said the company was found to be operating several hubs without mayor’s permits.

“Because of that violation there is a closure order and actual pictures have been taken to implement such a closure order," Gamboa said.

President Rodrigo Duterte had ordered CIDG to investigate J&T Express after a video showing employees mishandling parcels went viral on social media.

Gamboa said an investigation into the company’s provincial hubs is still ongoing.

J&T Express vice president Zoe Chi earlier apologized particularly over the viral video, saying management was “shocked” to see it but took full responsibility for it.

Duterte urged the complainants to come forward and file complaints against the company. (SunStar Philippines)
