THE Caloocan City Police Station said it is open for any investigation related to the detention of a father over alleged illegal gambling amid heavy flooding in the Metro.
In a now viral post of Cardinal Pablo Virgilio David, he decried the death of Dion Angelo dela Rosa, who died of leptospirosis after he waded through flood waters amid search for his father, Jayson.
Jayson was arrested by the Caloocan City Police Station (CCPS) after he was supposedly caught playing kara y krus.
In a statement, the Caloocan City Police Station said they are ready for any complaints over the possible irregularities in Jayson’s arrest and detention.
“On the Issue of Arrest Notification: While we strive to uphold all procedures and respect the rights of every citizen, if there were lapses committed by any member of our personnel -- particularly in informing relatives during the arrest -- we encourage the filing of a formal complaint. Any allegation of misconduct will be thoroughly investigated, and necessary disciplinary actions will be taken as appropriate,” it said.
It also noted that the recommendation for bail and subsequent temporary release of an arrested individual is solely within the jurisdiction of the Prosecutor's Office and the court.
The CCPS said based on the verified reports and timelines, the unfortunate death of Dion due to leptospirosis is not related to the arrest of the father, saying the health-related incident occurred under different circumstances that have no causal connection to the police operation.
It also emphasized the police’s mandate, which primarily covers peace and order, crime prevention, and law enforcement.
“The CCPS remains steadfast and committed to upholding the law and will continue to apprehend violators as the law may require. We call on the public to remain discerning and responsible in sharing information online to avoid misinformation and unnecessary public alarm,” the CCPS said.
“We extend our condolences to the family of the deceased youth and assure the community of our continued dedication to serving the people of Caloocan City with integrity and professionalism,” it added. (TPM/SunStar Philippines)
