THE Federation of Asian Bishops' Conferences (FABC) has established a new commission aimed at implementing the Catholic Church's synodal vision more effectively.
It has appointed Cardinal Pablo Virgilio David of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) as its head.
According to a report by CBCP News, the FABC formed the “Commission for Synodality” during the FABC Central Committee’s annual meeting, which was held from March 12 to 13, 2025, in Bangkok, Thailand.
"The Commission aims to provide ongoing formation for bishops on synodality and create opportunities for resource-sharing among its members," said CBCP News, the official news agency of the CBCP.
It is worth noting that David is also the vice president of the FABC.
"David’s appointment underscores his extensive experience and unwavering commitment to the synodal process," the report added.
Fr. Clarence Devadass of Malaysia, who served for many years in the FABC Office of Theological Concerns, has been named the Commission’s executive secretary.
The Commission’s members include Fr. William LaRousse from the FABC Central Secretariat, Dr. Christina Kheng from Singapore, Redemptorist Fr. Vimal Tirimana from Sri Lanka, Fr. Enrico Ayo and Ms. Estella Padilla from the Philippines, Ms. Momoko Nishimura, a consecrated woman from Japan, and Sr. Lalitha Thomas from India.
"Each member brings a wealth of experience, having actively participated in both sessions of the Synod on Synodality," said the FABC. (Anton Banal/SunStar Philippines)
