THE Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested two Chinese nationals who yielded electronic equipment used for spying in Bulacan.
In a statement, the CIDG said the operation was conducted in Primavera Homes, Barangay Sabang, Baliuag town, and resulted in the arrest of two male Chinese nationals who were caught in the act of possessing, installing, and deploying electronic equipment capable of intercepting, storing, and utilizing information obtained from various communication devices, particularly cellphones.
Seized from the suspects were electronic devices and equipment, including a metal box battery with positive and negative terminals and wires; a complete assembly of an International Mobile Subscriber Identity (Imsi) catcher (motherboard); an Imsi catcher antenna; a Huawei Wi-Fi internet router; a 3000-watt (W) inverter (complete assembly); and a 1200W portable inverter.
The suspects are detained in the CIDG Bulacan Provincial Field Unit.
They will be charged before the National Prosecution Office with violations of the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
“With the arrest of the suspects and confiscation of these devices, we significantly prevented cybercrimes and possible intercepting, storing, and utilizing information obtained from various communication equipment, particularly cellphones, from happening,” CIDG director Major General Nicolas Torre III said.
“Delikado itong ginagawa nila, itong pag-intercept and pag-store ng information from communication devices (what they're doing is dangerous—intercepting and storing information from communication devices). It is a violation of individual human rights and a threat to our national security,” he added. (TPM/SunStar Philippines)
