THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Friday, August 8, 2025, assured the public, particularly voters in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Barmm), that the October 13 Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections (BPE) will push through as scheduled.

In an interview, Comelec Chairman George Garcia said they have not received any information indicating that the BPE will be postponed again.

"To the people of the Bangsamoro, we will proceed with the elections at all costs. That is our commitment to you," said Garcia.

"As long as there are no changes in the law, we will proceed," he added.

As proof, he cited their ongoing preparations for the forthcoming parliamentary polls.

"We are 100 percent preparing for the Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections. The preparations are ongoing," said Garcia.

The poll chief also said they have not received any information that lawmakers are moving to postpone the October 13 polls.

"We need a law to postpone it. Until today, we have not heard of any action to postpone it," said Garcia.

Republic Act No. 12123 moved the BPE from May 12, 2025, to October 13, 2025.

On Thursday, Senator Imee Marcos said she had heard information that there are plans to postpone the BPE again. (Anton Banal/SunStar Philippines)
