MANILA — Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairperson George Garcia said on Wednesday that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is expected to sign the measure postponing the Dec. 1 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) "very soon".

"Any moment from now, the President could sign the law because the Palace has not given any indication that it will be vetoed by the President or that it will not be signed," Garcia said in an online interview.

Once approved, the holding of BSKE will be moved to the first Monday of November 2026.

Garcia assured that they are ready for the decision of the President.

In case the village and youth elections would be postponed, he said the poll body would have more time to prepare after the Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections (BPE) on Oct. 1.

"The quality of preparations will be compromised because there is only a month between the two elections... But, if it is postponed, we will be better prepared (for the BSKE)," Garcia said. (PNA)
