THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) has officially convened as the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC) amid the ongoing 2025 national and local elections.

As the NBOC, the Comelec is expected to accept the certificates of canvass of votes for senators and party-list groups while the local board of canvassers will canvass votes for the local post.

In an earlier interview, Comelec chairperson George Erwin Garcia said the local board of canvassers may start proclaiming winners for local races within two to three hours after the closing of voting.

“Additionally, an official announcement regarding the election results will be made public. Therefore, by the end of the day, it is anticipated that the winners for both the mayor and vice mayor positions will be announced,” Garcia said.

For the national race, canvassing of votes and proclamation of winners are expected to be completed as early as five days.

Garcia said the result of the elections will be consolidated in a comprehensive total once the results from all the polling centers across the country come in.

The Comelec is expecting a faster canvassing of votes due to the agency’s enhanced system, particularly with the introduction of automated counting machines and the electronic transmission of election results.

Polling precincts will be closed by 7 p.m.

The Comelec earlier said there were a total of 69,673,655 registered voters for the 2025 NLE. (TPM/SunStar Philippines)
