THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) has ordered the disqualification of Pasig congressional candidate Christian Sia over his remarks about single mothers.
In a decision issued Thursday, May 8, 2025, the Comelec second division approved the petition filed by Comelec Task Force Safe against Sia, seeking his disqualification from the 2025 national and local elections (NLE).
“Accordingly, respondent is hereby disqualified from continuing as a candidate for member, House of Representatives, Lone Legislative District of Pasig City, in relation to the 2025 national and local elections,” the order reads.
“In the event that the respondent nonetheless obtains the highest number of votes, his proclamation shall be suspended until the final resolution of this case,” it added.
The Comelec task force filed a motu proprio petition for disqualification against Sia over his remarks during a campaign activity on April 3 where he said, “Ito ang ambag ko sa mga solo parent ng Pasig.
(This is my contribution to the solo parents of Pasig. Once a year, female solo parents who still get their period—Ma'am, those who still menstruate and feel sad—once a year, may sleep with me.)
In another political activity on the same day, Sia made a supposed body-shaming remark.
(Even my staff are typically all men. There was only one woman with me back then -- only one woman, Jaja. Where is Jaja? Have you gone on a diet? Just show yourself, Jaja. That’s Jaja, part of the staff. What did you look like fifteen years ago -- were you thin? You were already heavy when we started working together. This is Jaja’s body now. My point is, would someone like that be the staff of a pervert? No. When it comes to women, it’s clear -- women are to be respected and loved.)
The Comelec task force noted Section 3 of the Comelec Resolution 11116, which explicitly classifies discrimination against women and gender-based harassment as election offenses, recognizing that such acts can result in injury, damage, loss or disadvantage to affected persons, particularly with respect to their honor and dignity.
