MANILA – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is considering reopening the filing period for the nominees of Regional Parliament Political Parties (RPPPs) in relation to the Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections (BPE) on Oct. 13.

Comelec Chairperson George Garcia said some RPPPs are requesting for the reopening in order for them to file a more accurate list of nominees.

"There is a call for the reopening of the period to file names of nominees of political parties. They are appealing if we can reopen the period," he said in an interview on Friday.

"The Comelec might be able to discuss and reconsider our decision. It is possible that we will allow anew the submission of nominees."

The filing period for the BPE was held Nov. 4 to 9 last year.

"Some RPPPs claimed that since the filing last November 4 to 9, they have nominees that have either left the party or ran in the local elections," Garcia said.

An RPPP is required to nominate 40 individuals for the BPE. Each group may be able to get a maximum of 40 seats in the Bangsamoro parliamentary, depending on the outcome of the BPE. (PNA)
