WITH just over three months before the October 13 Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections (BPE), the Commission on Elections (Comelec) Friday, June 27, 2025, expressed openness to the possibility of reopening the period to file names of nominees of Regional Parliament Political Parties (RPPPs).
In an interview, Comelec Chairman George Garcia said they are not ruling out the possibility of reopening the period as sought by several RPPPs.
"There is a call for the reopening of the period to file names of nominees of political parties. They are appealing if we can reopen the period," said Garcia.
"The Comelec might be able to discuss and reconsider our decision. It is possible that we will allow anew the submission of nominees," he added.
He said this is due to some RPPP nominees no longer being part of the groups, while others ran in the May 12 national and local polls.
"Some RPPPs claimed that since the filing last November 4 to 9, they have nominees that have either left the party or ran in the local elections," said Garcia.
The poll chief said they may consider granting the request in order to ensure the capacity of the RPPPs of fielding sufficient number of nominees come Election Day.
"We may just reopen the filing of nominees so that they'll have a more accurate list of nominees," said Garcia.
To note, each RPPP was required to nominate 40 individuals for the BPE 2025 last November 4 to 9, 2024.
This as an RPPP may be able to secure a maximum of 40 seats in the parliamentary depending on the results of the BPE on October 13. (Anton Banal/SunStar Philippines)
