
A POLICE officer was killed in a shootout with a robbery suspect in Quezon City on Monday, June 30, 2025.
In a report, the Quezon City Police District said Patrolman Harwin Curtney Baggay and another policeman were patrolling when they heard successive gunshots several meters away from their post.
The two policemen immediately responded to the incident, which turned out to be a robbery in progress where the victim and a bystander were injured.
The suspect engaged the cops in a gun fight, hitting Baggay in his left arm. The bullet then pierced through his chest.
Baggay was able to fire back despite his injury while his buddy also fired shots, killing the suspect.
Baggay was pronounced dead in the hospital.
In a statement, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) expressed condolences to the bereaved family.
“The NCRPO deeply mourns the untimely demise of Patrolman Curtney Harwin Baggay, who gave his life in line of duty while responding to an armed robbery incident in Quezon City. Pat Baggay is a hero to all of us, a very brave and committed cop,” NCRPO Regional Director Major General Anthony Aberin said.
“His sacrifice must compel us to serve with greater vigilance, dedication, and purpose. We offer our deepest respect and condolences to the family of Patrolman Baggay. We will extend all the necessary assistance to the bereaved family in full recognition of his duty and sacrifice,” he added. (TPM/SunStar Philippines)
