TROPICAL cyclone Danas, formerly named Bising, has intensified into a typhoon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Sunday, July 6, 2025.

In its advisory, the weather bureau said the weather system will continue moving north eastward over the next 36 hours and may re-enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) Sunday night, or early tomorrow morning, July 7.

It was expected to exit PAR immediately.

As of 10 a.m. Sunday, Typhoon Danas was spotted at 385 kilometers west northwest of Itbayat, Batanes packed with maximum winds of 120 kilometers per hour (km/h) near the center, gusts of up to 150 km/h, and central pressure of 975 hPa.

It was moving north northeastward at 10 km/h.

Pagasa raised a gale warning over the northern seaboard of northern Luzon.

It said rough seas is expected over the coastal waters of Batanes, Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur and the western seaboards of Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Norte, La Union, Pangasinan and Zambales.

“Danas is forecast to steadily intensify over the next 24 hours. A weakening trend is expected over the East China Sea due to unfavorable conditions. It may weaken into a remnant low by Thursday (10 July) as it interacts with the landmass of China,” said Pagasa.

The weather bureau urged the public and the concerned disaster risk reduction and management offices to continue monitoring for updates related to this tropical cyclone.

In a radio interview, Office of Civil Defense officer-in-charge Bernardo Rafaelito Alejandro IV said at least 3,773 families were affected by the effects of Typhoon Danas in Ilocos Region (Region 1), Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), and Cagayan Valley (Region 2).

He said flooding was also reported in the affected regions, but the water had already begun to subside. (TPM/SunStar Philippines)
