THE Department of Education (DepEd) has announced on Monday, April 7, 2025, a new policy granting teachers a 30-day uninterrupted vacation without any school-related obligations.
The new policy, which allows teachers to schedule their vacation break between April 16 to June 1, 2025, gives them the option to take the 30 days off either continuously or in a staggered manner.
The revised guidelines extend the vacation to teachers in the Alternative Learning System (ALS) and those teaching Arabic Language and Islamic Values Education (ALIVE). However, teachers involved in mandatory summer programs will have their vacation scheduled outside the period from May 13 to June 6, 2025.
Education Secretary Angara emphasized the importance of the break.
“This break is a well-deserved opportunity for our learners and teachers to relax after a long academic year. I hope they spend this time wisely, unwinding with their families and loved ones, and return to work energized for the new school year.”
During the vacation, teachers will not be required to engage in any activities related to the Performance Management Evaluation System (PMES), offering them a complete break from school duties.
Teachers will have until the end of the first month of the 2025-2026 school year to submit their electronic Individual Performance Commitment and Review Form (eIPCRF), and those seeking promotions can submit their performance evaluations before the last day of classes.
While participation in professional development or summer training activities remains voluntary, teachers who choose to engage will earn Vacation Service Credits (VSC) in addition to their 30-day vacation.
School heads, however, are not covered by the new policy as they are responsible for managing school operations during the break, although they are entitled to vacation and sick leave credits. (PR)
