MIGRANT Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac on Monday, July 21, 2025, assured assistance for the "deported" crew members of the Carnival Sunshine cruise ship.
In a social media post, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) head guaranteed support for the 18 Filipino crew members who were "forcibly removed" while docked at the Port of Norfolk in Virginia, United States.
"We will provide assistance to them," Cacdac stated.
Reports indicate these 18 Filipino seafarers were "forcibly removed" from the cruise ship. They were subsequently sent back to the Philippines and are now banned from re-entry to the United States for 10 years.
Cacdac announced the DMW intends to gather information directly from the Filipino seafarers.
"The DMW will talk to the cruise ship workers, who have been deported, to gather details," he said. (Anton Banal)
