THE Department of Justice (DOJ) is seeking the cancellation of the passport of former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque, who has a standing arrest warrant over human trafficking charges.

In an interview with reporters, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said Roque may be deported once his passport is canceled and his application for asylum in The Netherlands is denied.

Remulla expressed confidence that The Netherlands will not tolerate the crimes Roque is being accused of.

“They see naman that the justice system is working in this sense that we have given due process to him to answer,” he said.

Earlier, the DOJ said it is preparing the documents for the application for the issuance of an Interpol red notice against Roque.

Roque, along with 10 alleged officials of Lucky South 99 -- the raided illegal Pogo hub in Porac town -- including Cassandra Li Ong and former Technology and Livelihood Resource Center deputy director Dennis Cunanan, was ordered arrested by a Pampanga court in relation to the human trafficking cases filed against them.

Lucky South 99 was raided in June 2024, resulting in the rescue of dozens of alleged human trafficking victims.

Roque has repeatedly denied links to POGO, saying he is a victim of political persecution due to his ties to the Dutertes.

The former Malacañang official is currently in The Netherlands, where former President Rodrigo Duterte is also detained amid the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) investigation into alleged crimes against humanity committed during the implementation of his drug war. (TPM/SunStar Philippines)
